Detailed Itinerary of the 3 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Rwanda

Day 1:  Pick up and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

At an earlier agreed pick up point, your driver guide will be there to pick you up for a transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park. If it is in the morning, then you will have time to have a short city tour and also visit the ethnographic museum which is also the national museum of Rwanda that showcases culture and history of the country. Have lunch at the museum then continue with the drive to Nyungwe Forest.

Enjoy scenic views along the road to the park and continue till you arrive your prior booked hotel close to Nyungwe. Check in, have dinner and relax at hotel as you wait for your chimpanzee trekking experience the next day.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

Have an early breakfast then get ready for a chimpanzee trekking experience. Go to the trek start point for briefing about the chimpanzee trekking guidelines before entering the forest in search of the chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest.

As you get closer to where the chimpanzees are, you will notice s you hear their calls and notice them jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. The trekking experience takes about 3 hours including 1 hour that you are allowed to spend in their presence.

After the trek, return to the starting point and meet up with your guide to drive you back to your lodge for lunch and refreshment. After lunch, you will go for the canopy walk, the best in East Africa a bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended across large trees.

On the canopy walk, you will be able to see the amazing rain forest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Before night fall, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Return to Kigali City/Airport

After an early breakfast, embark on the drive back to Kigali city. Along the way, have a stop en route at Butare for lunch and visit Nyanza palace after which you continue with your drive to Kigali city to your hotel or transfer to the airport for your flight back
