Kibale National Park is one of the best safari destinations in Uganda with the highest concentration of primates in East Africa. The park covers about 795 square kilometers and protecting 13 species of primates including the Chimpanzees. Chimpanzee habituation is one of the top activities done in Kibale Forest National Park because of the high concentration of chimpanzees in this particular destination.

Detailed itinerary – 3 Days Chimpanzee Habituation Safari in Kibale National Park
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
You will be picked up from Kampala/Entebbe in the morning and embark on the drive to western Uganda using the Mityana – Mubende road. The journey will be about 5-6 hours with a stop in Fort Portal town for lunch. After that, you will proceed to Kibale National Park the Primate Capital. Upon arrival, you check in to your pre-booked accommodation and enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Habituation Experience and Bigodi Swamp walk
After an early morning breakfast at the lodge, you will be driven to Kanyanchu Visitor center in Kibale National Park where you will be briefed before you start the match in the forest. One group of chimpanzees undergoes habituation at a time and only 4 people are allowed to participate in the habituation process per day. You will then start your habituation walk and in accompaniment of researchers and rangers at 6:30am and upon meeting the chimpanzees, you are allowed 4 hours in their presence under guidance. Once time is up for seeing the Chimpanzees, you will walk back to the starting point where you will be debriefed and awarded certificates for Chimpanzee habituation experience.
You then drive back to the lodge for lunch and later visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a walk. Here you have to opportunity to see several species of monkeys like the Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Red-tailed Monkeys, L’Hoest Monkeys, Vervet Monkeys among others, Baboons, various bird species and other wildlife.
Day 3: Transfer back to Kampala/Entebbe
Today is the last day of your 3 Days Chimpanzee Habituation Safari in Kibale National Park. After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and embark on the journey back to Kampala/Entebbe.
